A moving tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was well attended by Cheyney University students, faculty and staff on Tuesday evening at Dudley Theatre.  Miss Cheyney, Shakeemah Simmons, was Mistress of Ceremonies. Actor Rahn Scott opened the evening with a powerful rendition of Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech.  The message intensified as the speech progressed, ending with the memorable passage -

"... From every mountainside, let freedom ring. And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Pastor Phillip Hall of Love Missionary Baptist Church shared insights into Dr. King's philosophy.

The evening closed with an a capella selection by senior choir members Janina Jones and Shaniqua Love and a traditional candle lighting ceremony by members of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
