CHEYNEY, PA (Mar. 2, 2010) — Cheyney University has recently received a $20,000 contribution in support of Call Me MISTER from ING, a global financial institution of Dutch origin offering banking, investments, life insurance and retirement services.
The Call Me MISTER (Mentoring, Instructing Students toward Effective Role Models) is a teacher recruitment and leadership program designed to address the critical shortage of ethnically diverse public elementary school teachers in underserved urban communities.
Ethel Pippin, Vice President, HBCU/Urban National ING Director, said, “Based on my introduction to the fine work being done on campus (at Cheyney University) with future urban educators in the School District of Philadelphia, ING would like to provide $20,000 in support of the Call Me MISTER Program this year.”
Dr. Howard-Vital affirms that ING has been very supportive to Cheyney University in helping to support the Call Me MISTER Program and in telling the good story of the Cheyney University. “We look forward to working with them in the future.”
Call Me MISTER was founded in 1999 as a partnership between Clemson University and several colleges in South Carolina. This licensed program is now offered at several HBCUs and their partner colleges.
Mr. Howard R. Jean, Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program Director and former MISTER, said, “We are extremely grateful for the contribution from ING during these tough economic times. ING’s support speaks volumes on their vested interest in helping to transform society through supporting needed program like Call Me MISTER and providing access to financial responsible programs. We salute them and look forward to working with them in the present and future.”
