A Home Depot Retool Your School Grant will provide benches for Cheyney University's historic quad.
For a second consecutive year, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania has been awarded a $10,000 Home Depot Retool Your School Grant.
Nancy L. Jones, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, reported today that Cheyney University has been selected to receive a Tier Two $10,000 grant from this year’s Home Depot “Retool Your School” competition. Award selection was based on a combination of online voting and the strength of the proposal according to Home Depot’s Advisory Board members. All members of the CU Community share in earning this award by voting for the University. CU received over 90,000 votes."
Ms. Jones noted with appreciation, “We can all be proud of the fact that we helped Cheyney University to be among the 13 top ranking HBCU schools in online voting who were award recipients. As a result of our efforts, Home Depot will support our request of $10,000 to enhance the campus by installing benches around the University's historic quadrangle.”
The goal is to provide sustainable and lasting renovations to give new life to the campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The winners were chosen by a combination of public voting and careful review by a distinguished panel of judges. Each year program support from alumni, students, parents and the community grows. Since the program’s inception in 2010, more than three million votes have been cast as the HBCU community bands together for their favorite and most deserving HBCU school projects.
“The Home Depot is thrilled to once again offer the Retool Your School Campus Improvement Grant . to HBCUs,” said Melissa Brown, manager of multicultural marketing, The Home Depot. “Now in its fourth year, we’ve seen incredible growth of support and popularity of the program. It is such a rewarding program that connects with our communities and takes school spirit to a whole new level.”
