The Cheyney University National Alumni Association Seeks Legacy Family Nominations

The Cheyney University National Alumni Association is reaching out to the Cheyney Family to submit recommendations for the 2014 Legacy Family. A Legacy Family is one with several or many family members that have matriculated at Cheyney University. The submission deadline is August 29, 2014.

Five student delegates from the Cheyney University Collegiate 100 traveled to Hollywood, Florida to participate in a four-day conference that included leadership, professional development, and peer mentoring sessions.They not only took full advantage of the workshops and opportunities at the international conference, but made their presence felt in very big ways.

CU's Call Me MISTER Coordinator Seeking New Scholars

Monroe Griffin, the new program coordinator of Cheyney University's Call Me MISTER program, is accepting applications for fall 2014. Call Me MISTER Scholars receive academic and book scholarships, stipends to cover PAPA and PECT fees and tests, support for conference attendance and access to internships across the country. In addition, they are encouraged to attend various workshops, training, mentoring, professional development and teacher leadership sessions on and off campus.

They wore beanies on their heads 50 years ago when they walked the Historic Quadrangle at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. On May 10, when they led the procession for the graduating Class of 2014 back at their alma mater, the women proudly wore white, while the men dressed in black.

Despite an afternoon that brought torrential downpours, Cheyney University's 2014 commencement went off without a hitch beginning at 11 am under the sun and the shade of a huge white tent on the school's Historic Quadrangle. As the University Band played Pomp and Circumstance, nearly 200 graduates marched forth to collect their undergraduate or graduate degrees that they worked so hard to attain.

Freshman Egypt Bailey is the first Miss Beautifully Curved at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The reigning Miss Cheyney, India Cross, came up with the idea, organized and hosted the pageant on February 26 in the Marcus Foster Student Center. The event was part of her platform which is to unite the women on campus by helping them all find the beauty that is within them.

Cheyney University of Pennyslvania celebrated its 177th Convocation on February 28 with the theme "Embracing Standards of Excellence Since 1837." Philadelphia City Councilwoman Jannie L. Blackwell, a 1968 graduate of Cheyney, was this year's Convocation Speaker. She told the young people gathered that they need four things in order to be successful.
