Cheyney University"s Orji Among Finalists for McLendon Scholarship

Stephanie Orji was selected as one of 10 finalists and the only Division II student athlete for the 2009-10 John McLendon Postgraduate Scholarship as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Orji, a 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Champion (PSAC) and NCAA qualifier in the Triple Jump was a two sport athlete at Cheyney competing on the track and on the hardwood as a member of the women’s basketball team. She also earned the prestigious Presidents Scholar Athlete Award as the female student athlete with the highest grade point average. She was also recognized as a PSAC Scholar Athlete, a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and a nominee to represent the PSAC in the NCAA Woman of the Year Awards which the top 10 honorees per division will be announced in August.
Orji, graduated in May with a 3.77 g.p.a. in Recreation and Leisure Management and will attend graduate school at West Chester to study Sports Administration.
The John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Awards are presented to senior-level minority students who intend to pursue a graduate degree in athletics administration. Joining Orji as finalists are Francie Ekwerekwu (Oklahoma), Ashley Hicks (Southern Cal), Tara Jackson (American), Leigh Jakes (Northwestern), Joshua Jones (Hampton), Samantha Henry (Louisiana State), Mandi Rodriguez (Oregon State), Annette Scott (American) and Stacy Uchida (Northwestern).
The winners will each receive a $10,000 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies in athletics administration. Funding for the scholarship program has been provided in part by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA); the Cleveland Cavaliers; Major League Baseball (MLB); the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC); the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA); the National Basketball Association (NBA); the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA); and Sears, Roebuck and Co.
NACDA will release the five recipients of this prestigious scholarship in late July.
