CHEYNEY, PA (November 3, 2009) — Cheyney University of Pennsylvania’s Soulful Sound Band will be one of the four featured marching bands performing in the Battle of the Bands this weekend in Philadelphia.
Franklin Field, in the heart of Philadelphia, is the place to be on Sunday, Nov. 8th as Youth Education in the Arts brings the most entertaining show bands together in an afternoon of spirited family fun.
The Battle of the Bands begins at 1 p.m. and will showcase popular college and high school marching bands along with Cheyney University’s Soulful Sound Marching Band. Other featured scheduled performances will include: Howard University of Washington, D.C.; Morgan State University of Baltimore, Md.; Lincoln University of Lincoln University, Pa.
The marching spectacular, rescheduled from Oct. 18th due to inclement weather, will also include performances by select high school marching bands from New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Co-sponsored by WDAS-FM and Power 99 FM, the show will be hosted by well-known radio personalities Eddie F and Shamara from Power 99 and Patty Jackson from WDAS-FM and will include live on-air broadcasts from the event.
“We are over the top that these popular marching bands and radio personalities will join us for this exciting event in downtown Philly,” said George Hopkins, CEO of Youth Education in the Arts. “It was unfortunate we had to reschedule, but as always, Youth Education in the Arts strives to provide the best experience possible for performers, family and fans. Changing the date was a prudent thing to do.”
Gates open at noon with tickets available by advance purchase, or at the gate. Tickets are $50 for VIP Premier Seating and $20 General Admission. Order tickets at www.yea.org or call the Battle of the Bands Ticket Hotline at 877-512-TUBA (8822), Ext. 125.
