Cheyney University's Spring Art and Lecture Series Adds New Dates!

CHEYNEY, PA (Mar 10, 2010) — Cheyney University of Pennsylvania will be hosting the Spring Art and Lecture Series, due to snow postponements, this March. The popular series will feature acts such as Demetria Joyce Bailey in “Ethel Waters: His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” on Thursday, March 18, 7 p.m., at the Dudley Theatre, on the historic quad. The Philadelphia Inquirer raved: “When you watch Demetria Joyce Bailey’s portrayal...it’s an accomplished, informed realization”~ Philadelphia Inquirer.
Other acts include: “Simple Gifts” on Friday, March 19, at 1:30 p.m., at Marcus Foster Student Union Building, 2nd floor. In this program, guests will learn how combining tradition with innovation produces some of the finest arrangements in folk music today. Swing fiddle creeps into a Romanian dance and spoons show up in an Irish reel.

The fun continues on Wednesday, March 24, 8 p.m. at the Dudley Theatre, with West Chester Dance Works’: “Rachel Harris: One Woman Over the Line.” This multi-media production is based on the true story of Rachel Harris, a runaway slave, and her search for freedom and dignity.

Then, on Tuesday, March 30, at 7 p.m., at the Marcus Foster Student Building, 2nd floor, Dr. Donna ‘Aza’ Weir-Soley will present: “Eroticism, Spirituality, and Resistance in Women’s Writings.” Dr. Weir-Soley builds on the work of previous scholars who have identified black women’s narratives and their impact.
Finally, the CU Family is proud to welcome Dr. Steve Perry, Educator, and Author of Man Up! Nobody’s coming to Save Us, On Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m., at the Duckrey Social Science Auditorium. Dr. Perry has been featured on CNN’s “Black in America 2.”
