Cheyney's Got Talent Performance is Set For Monday, April 22
March 25, 2013
Doors for Cheyney's Got Talent on Monday, April 22 open at 7:30 pm in Marian Anderson Music Center on the historic campus of Cheyney University.
Organized by University College Student Wellness staff coordinator Lorna Best, the "Cheyney's Got Talent" program marks the culmination of the series of Behavioral Health Workshops held this semester. Celebrity psychologist and former therapist-in-residence for The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Robin Smith, facilitated a series of workshops centered on the topic of "Using the Creative Arts for Empowerment, Enrichment and Excellence" to empower, enrich and create excellence for students so they will have successful academic and social experiences while at Cheyney University.
The April 22 talent show is the product of the creative arts workshops which were held in the past few months. The results of the workshops will come into play at "Cheyney's Got Talent" as the performers show how healing can start through performing arts. Using a talent show format, workshop participants will channel their gifts to step out of their fear and find a positive path forward.Their acts will reflect their personal journeys and testimonies as they are articulated through the performances. Doors open at 7:30 pm.
The program has been made possible through a grant from the Morehouse School of Medicine’s HBCU Center for Excellence in Behavioral Health which, in turn, was made possible by funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
