Cheyney University students turned out in Marcus Foster Student Center Tuesday, March 25, to hear a former 6ABC TV reporter, a current television producer and a newspaper advertising executive talk about their careers and the opportunities available in the communications and public relations fields.

Cheyney University students turned out in Marcus Foster Student Center Tuesday, March 25, to hear a former 6ABC TV reporter, a current television producer and a newspaper advertising executive talk about their careers and the opportunities available in the communications and public relations fields., Advertising Director for the Daily Local News.


Wilson explained how she spent 24 years as an Action News television report for Philadelphia's leading station, WPVI, after working for other stations as a weathercaster, substitute anchor and as a radio reporter. In addition to her public relations job now, she is also Vice President of a multi-media production company and is a freelance writer for a magazine.  

Gibbs spoke candidly about how her career had taken her to Maryland, New York, Connecticut, and Delaware. While Gibbs has produced daily news, helped create a morning magazine show, worked on TVOne’s live coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election and Washington Watch with Roland Martin, and worked on various shows for numerous tv stations, she currently works as a freelance writer for Fox 29’s Good Day morning newscast.   Gibbs was able to talk openly with the students about the benefits of working per diem.

With plenty of sales and marketing experience, Johnston, whose worked for companies in Ohio and Pennsylvania, explained how she helped transform a dying pint business into a growing digital ad agency. Johnston has an English degree from St. Bonaventure University (NY) and an MBA from John Carroll University (OH).

According to Dr. Deidre Beadle who facilitates the KHA Professional Development Events, "The group represented a diverse mix of professionals in the field of communications. Ms. Gibbs, Wilson, and Johnston displayed a high level of passion for their work that was well received by our students and highlighted in our student feedback. They offered rich insights into the professions of advertising, television production, and television reporting and advised the attending students on practical steps for success."

This was the fourth of five panels highlighted by the KHA this semester.  The last one will take place April 15 at 6:00 pm in Marcus Foster 211 and will feature Business, HRTM and Public Administration professionals.
