Desire 2 Learn (D2L) has Replaced Blackboard at Cheyney

July 21, 2010

Cheyney University migrated to Desire 2 Learn (D2L) since the Summer 1 - 2010 semester. D2L is a learning management system (LMS) which provides a relatively easy way to create course websites. A D2L course site allows "anytime, anywhere" access to syllabi, readings, multimedia files, electronic dropboxes, online quizzes, email, grading, student progress reports, project files, etc. Basically all of the PASSHE Schools have converted from Blackboard, our former elearning software, to D2L for elearning. To prepare our faculty for the transition, D2L provided 7-hours of online training located on the D2L community website. In April 2010, a D2L trainer visited the campus and provided 4 days of face-to-face-training y in Duckrey Social Science Building Room 242 (Graphic Design Lab). Both Dr. Wesley Pugh and Professor Joel Keener have been involved with assisting in the D2L faculty training.

As of June 30, 2010, Blackboard was replaced by Desire 2 Learn. Jennifer Wang of IT department is the current D2L Administrator. She has transferred all of the Blackboard courses into D2L courses. She has integrated our Power Campus Student Information System (SIS) into D2L. This will ensure that all of course information, student enrollment data, and faculty data are now found in the new system.

The SIS integration with D2L was successfully completed on July 19th. The first load for fall 2010 courses have been loaded to the LIVE D2L system. Thanks to Jennifer Wang, all outstanding issues have been resolved. This was a major undertaking for Ms. Wang to complete without a team of developers as most of the other PASSHE schools have to their advantage.
