Destination Cheyney Brings Students To Campus

About 250 students and family members visited campus on Friday, November 9, for Destination Cheyney. The college visitation was organized by the new Executive Director of Enrollment Management, Eric Hilton, Ph.D. and his staff.  Most of the students were from Philadelphia and surrounding counties.  Others came from New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Massachusetts. 


The Marian Anderson Music Center served as base for a thorough introduction to all that Cheyney University has to offer.  The goal was to help parents, students and counselors better understand the admissions process and quality of academic and student life at CU.  Staff from the admissions office, student leaders and many faculty members were on hand to greet the guests and answer their questions.  Energetic performances by the band, cheerleaders, dancers, and choir added a nice flair to the day.  


To present a realistic university experience to the visiting students, mock classroom and faculty presentations showcased a range of University programs:  Business Administration and Fashion Merchandising, Hospitality and Leisure Studies, Natural and Applied Science--including Math and Computer Science, Education and Leadership Studies, Humanities and Communications Arts--featuring Graphic Design, Theater, Art and Music, plus Social & Behavioral Science-- including Political Science, Psychology & Criminal Justice, and Guidance and Counseling. 
 
Following lunch at Ada Georges Ballroom where guests got to sample all kinds of college cuisine, student leaders and representatives from Student Life, Residence Life and Student Activities held a panel discussion for the guest students.  Meantime, across campus, visiting family members learned about financial aid and residence life from a panel of experts from University College, Residence Life, and Financial Aid.

“The Office of Admissions will be following up with these students and encouraging their admissions application to the university,” Hilton said.  His staff will also send personalized notes, thanking them for their attendance.
 
According to Hilton, parents and counselors expressed appreciation for answered questions and at least one remarked that Cheyney gave them “a good feeling about the comfort level.”  He also said one student remarked, “I love this school.  I just got accepted and my future looks bright.”
