Cheyney University's Career Fair Attracts a Crowd
March 13, 2014
The Spring Career Fair drew a large number of students and company recruiters
Eager Cheyney University (CU) students seeking jobs and internship opportunities met with 35 representatives from businesses, government agencies, non-profits, and political organizations as CU’s Center for Career & Professional Development (CCPD) held its Spring Career Fair on March 12, 2014 in the Marcus Foster Student Center auditorium. The annual event was open to all Cheyney students and alumni. A steady flow of students filled the auditorium throughout the day.
Prospective employers, looking to hire from a wide range of majors, set up small tables adorned with their company’s logos, literature, pens and pamphlets. The event was coordinated by CCPD Director Ruth Brice, who provided CU job seekers with a great opportunity to get up-close and personal with potential employers representing industries such as healthcare, education, retail, judicial, business and the armed forces.
"I was pleased that our students were well prepared with resumes and notepads," she remarked. "They collected materials and connected with the company representatives throughout the day."
“I came because I am a graduating senior,” said Zakia Royster, “I just wanted to tap into any potential opportunities that might be available to me.”
“This is my third year coming to the career fair,” declared Karla Hughes, a senior social relations major. “What an amazing opportunity--there are more employers here today than ever before.”
“Ms. Brice does an amazing job bringing so many diverse employment opportunities here on campus,” said alumnus and Coach of the women’s basketball team, Kyle Adams. "I wish more Cheyney students would come out to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.”
Cheyney’s CCPD offers both students and alumni a number of resources including resume writing assistance, help with job searches, defining career goals and developing action plans.
