Entrepreneur and Success Strategist Raevyn Jones Kicks Off Cheyney University's ELC Lecture Series

Entrepreneur/Speaker/Success Strategist Raevyn Jones will discuss "Creating Your Own Economy" from 6 to 8 pm in the New Residence Hall UPS Conference room on September 19.

Cheyney University's Entrepreneurial Leadership Center (ELC) welcomes Entrepreneur/Speaker/Success Strategist Raevyn Jones on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 to discuss "Creating Your Own Economy" from 6 to 8 pm in the New Residence Hall UPS Conference Room.The serial entrepreneur launched her first business at the age of 21 and has become an emerging trailblazer among  young professionals and a powerful voice for branding and business strategies. Her motivational presentation will help listeners maximize their full potential and create the life that they deserve.  The session is free and open to the public.  

Jones kicks off the ELC’s 2013 Fall Lecture Series which asks the question “Why Entrepreneurship?” Each guest speaker will offer answers to that question on Wednesday evenings throughout the Fall.

Programs include - 

The Wednesday, September 25 program by Leland Nelson, President and Co-founder of Dirty Dog Hauling, covers Elements of the Successful Entrepreneur. Mr. Nelson will share the benefits of becoming your own employer. As a professional junk removal and hauling company that proudly serves the Greater Harrisburg area, Nelson is the President of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Pennsylvania.

On Wednesday, October 2, the ELC, in partnership with the Cheyney Hospitality, Tourism, Leisure Management Program will offer a workshop on Dining Etiquette for Entrepreneurs. The speaker, Herbert Black, an adjunct instructor at Cheyney University with the Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management Program, teaches students the managerial and competency skills needed for the hospitality industry. Black also oversees the Cheyney Grill. PLEASE NOTE, this location varies from the other events in the series and will be held in the Cheyney Grill - 2nd Floor Harris Building Turner from 6-8 pm.

On Wednesday, October 9, Making Bold Moves will be discussed by William Parrish, CEO Noble Strategy, LLC. He will share how to become a multi-million dollar success in less than 500 days. His firm, Noble Strategy Group, LLC, specializes in using innovative approaches to solving traditional construction problems. 

Business Writing for Entrepreneurs is the topic for Wednesday, October 23. Linda Taylor, an English professor at Cheyney University, teaches composition classes and is the coordinator of the Cheyney University Writing Center. Professor Taylor’s session will introduce attendees to the language, formats, and conventions associated with business communication. From emails to business plans she will discuss how to communicate professionally and achieve goals. 

On Wednesday, October 30, attendees will learn about Entrepreneurs in the Oil Industry. Wendy Jackson-Dowe, Vice President & COO of STG Group LLC, a minority owned wholesale provider of crude oil products, oversees operations and business development in the Northeast corridor of the United States. Jackson-Dowe will discuss opportunities for up-and-coming entrepreneurs in the Oil Industry. 

How Census Data Helps Entrepreneurs is the topic on November 6. Noemi Eliasen, an Information Services Specialist for the Philadelphia Regional Office of the U.S. Census Bureau, will talk about how the data gathered by the Census Bureau can assist entrepreneurs in making business decisions for their ventures.

The Fall series wraps up on November 13 with a presentation that suggests how to Turn a Great Idea into a Great Business. Robert Wingerter, Vice Chairman Client Services of SCORE, will discuss the purpose of writing a business plan and the components that go into developing a successful road map for entrepreneurial endeavors. SCORE, a nonprofit association for nearly 50 years, is dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, and grow to achieve their goals through education and mentorship.
