Fine Art Honor Society Inducts a Dozen New Members at Cheyney University

The Cheyney University of Pennsylvania Fine Art Honor Society (FAHS) Student Chapter of the Higher Education Division of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) held its induction awards ceremony on October 9, 2013. The FAHS is part of the Fine Arts, Graphic Design and Liberal Studies Department of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The Chapter was initiated in November 2003.

The FAHS 2013 Inductees included: Liberal Art Majors Angelitta Anderson and Rosalyn Mitchell Jackson; Fine Art Majors Nasir-Din Edwards and Morgan Scott; Graphic Design Majors Mabintou Ndiaya, Kendall Hood, Avery Brown, Xavier Ghasin, Jasmine Carter, and Jamele Lawrence; Political Science Major Zakia C. Royster; and Communication and Graphic Design Major Dymund Coles.

The advisors for the FAHS include Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Fine Arts, Design and Liberal Studies (FADLS)  Marietta Dantonio-Madsen, Senior Advisor, Assistant Professor and Gallery Curator Helena Domenic, and Associate Professor of Art Joel T. Keener.
A yellow rose was given to each inductee along with the charge, “Take the world, its colors and forms, its lines and textures, its balance, movement and space.Combine these into a strong statement of what it means to be human. Give back to the world the same beauty artists take from it as often as you can. Share the beauty with as many as you can.” 
Family, friends and faculty members joined the inductees inside the Biddle Hall Gallery which featured paintings by artist-in-residence Synthia SAINT JAMES.  
Society membership is open to all Cheyney University majors who possess a minimum 3.0 grade point average and who enjoy a sincere appreciation of Fine Arts. The FAHS acknowledges all students of excellence who demonstrate a high standard of accomplishment in art.  In addition, members provide community service locally and nationally through art.
