First Annual Thornbury 5k/10k Race and Community Day: Huge Success for all

Cheyney University recently hosted another Community Day, in conjunction with the First Annual Thornbury 5K/10K race. The Western Delaware Valley Lions Club of Thornbury and the Chester County Running Store headed the race portion of the day of fun-filled events.

Community Day collaboration was a great opportunity to showcase the talents of campus community members as well as build relationships in support of the university.

Community Day attractions include face painting and Caricatures, petting zoo, student art exhibit, theatrical performances, live jazz, health and public service departments’ information and more. There was also children’s races on the University’s track and field.  

Cheyney University’s Community Day was free and opened to the public. Most of the festivities were held in and around Cope Hall Gymnasium.

Race proceeds benefitted the Delaware Valley Lion's Club.  Lions Club International is the largest service club organization in the world with over 1.3 million members worldwide. The Delaware Valley Chapter also helps Thornbury Township by handling concessions at some Thornbury Park events such as Memorial Day and Independence Day.

There were various community and corporate sponsors who donated game prizes and more.

The 5k race results were as follows: Top three women were Shannon Genovese, 26, Kate Williams, 28, and Lorna Boyd,49. Top three men were Ed McConnell, 29, Jason Brown, 23, and Greg Vitali, 53.

The 10k race results: Top three women: Shannon Magrogan, 34, Jen Galfano, 30, Katie Miller, 31. Top three men: Darryl Brown, 27, Drew Vanderbrul, 39 and Edward Hovick, 47.
