Let's Get Zipping! Zipcars Arriving on Cheyney University's Campus

Cheyney University students, faculty and staff have new options to get off campus. Besides carpooling with friends or catching the #119 and #120 SEPTA buses, they can grab (on a first-come basis) one of the two Zipcars parked in specially designated parking spaces at the Marcus Foster Student Center parking lot.

Cheyney's C Club Hosts Sixth Annual Wade Wilson Golf Tournament and Silent Auction

The Cheyney University C Club hosted its annual golf tournament and silent auction on August 17 at Penn Oaks Country Club in West Chester, PA. As in past years, there were also events for non-golfers including a pinochle tournament and a tour of nearby Penn Woods Winery. A majority of the money raised goes toward athletic scholarships for Cheyney students.

Wade Wilson Golf Tournament Update: July 31, 2015 - Due to unforseen circumstances at Penn Oaks Course, the Cheyney C Club will relocate the August 17 annual Wade Wilson Golf Tournament to Edgmont Country Club. Located at 5180 West Chester Pike, Edgmont, PA 19028, is a 10 minute drive from Cheyney University on PA Route 3. The change will only affect golfers and foursomes who should register at 7:30 am at Edgmont Country Club for the Tournament. All non-golfer activities are at Penn Oaks CC.

Sharon Thorn, Director of Student Activities at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, is the University's latest recipient of The Cake Award, given to those individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty. She was honored at the end of a recent President's Executive Council meeting in Biddle Hall. The 27-year employee was completely taken off guard.

Cheyney University's Keystone Honors Academy and Bond Hill Program offer a free undergraduate and graduate education for qualifying PA students. Both programs have proven to be lifesavers for high-achieving students who, otherwise, could not afford to pay for higher education degrees. Some students earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees free of charge because the qualify for the scholarships.

Norway Study Abroad Trip Enlightening for Cheyney Students

Leonard Brown and Jasmine Richardson are hard at work after spending two weeks abroad in Norway. The Keystone Honors Academy Scholars were competitively selected to receive full scholarships to study leadership, peace and environmental sustainability earlier this summer. The pair joined two honors students from each of the 13 other PA State System of Higher Education schools for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Women's Bowling Joins East Coast Conference

East Coast Conference Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff, announced the addition of women's bowling as the league's 18th championship sport. The ECC is the seventh NCAA conference to sponsor women's bowling and the second comprised of only Division II institutions. Cheyney University has joined the conference and will compete in the inaugural 2015-16 season.

Cheyney Alumna & Professor, Norma George, is Headed to South Africa for a Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad

Dr. Norma George, Professor and Chair of Cheyney University's English, Languages and Communication Arts Department, and Director of International Programs, is headed to Durban, South Africa for a month as a participant in a Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad. The goal is for Professor George and her colleagues to develop educational modules that they will share with others, and incorporate into their courses when they return.

Cheyney not only advances its greening initiative, but reduces its mowing cycle by half, saves natural resources and cuts carbon emissions by 50 percent.

Cheyney University Women's Head Basketball Coach Kyle Adams, a 1999 Cheyney graduate, will host a four-day camp in August for boys and girls ages 7-17. The camp will take place August 10-13 in Cope Hall on the historic Cheyney campus. The cost is $80. Cheyney University of Pennsylvania was packed May 9 as family and friends gathered to watch the Class of 2015 walk across the stage to receive their long-awaited diplomas. The sweeping white tent on the historic quadrangle of the Nation’s 1st HBCU overflowed with well-wishers. As the University Band played Pomp and Circumstance, nearly 250 graduates processed behind Cheyney Administrators, Faculty, and Class of 1965 members who were on hand to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
