Kristen Drummond Named Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
February 7, 2014
Cheyney University President Dr. Michelle Howard Vital has appointed Kristen Drummond to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
Drummond will join Sue Kilian in providing leadership in NCAA compliance at the University. While compliance is everyone's responsibility, this is the first time in the history of the University that two people have that mandated in their title.
"I am extremely excited to be a part of an organization that has such a strong and boisterous history, academically and athletically," commented Drummond. "My goal at Cheyney is to continue to emphasize the reality that it is possible to be a successful student and a successful athlete simultaneously. This success should be foremost driven and desired by the individual student; however it should be additionally emphasized and cultivated by the athletic department and administration that surrounds them. With that being said, I am appreciative to have the ability to be affiliated with an athletic administration who shares the same core ideology. Cheyney has proven thus far to be an organization that backs their student-athletes, while continuing to uphold the mandates and mission of the NCAA."
Drummond comes to Cheyney from Hampton University where she served as Compliance Coordinator, after spending a year as Coordinator of Athletic Academic Support. Her duties include monitoring of the University's athletic programs to ensure compliance with all MEAC and NCAA rules and regulations, as well as to educate coaching staffs regarding new rules when applicable.
Drummond earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Maryland Eastern Shore; she received her undergraduate degree in sociology, before earning her master's in rehab counseling. She has also studied for a Ph.D. in rehab counseling at the University of Iowa and is currently working on her doctorate in Sports Management.
Prior to arriving at Hampton University, Drummond spearheaded research initiatives at the University of Iowa pertaining to minority student-athlete satisfaction and additionally worked with at-risk student athletes while performing the role of an academic coordinator.
Drummond initially entered the world of collegiate athletics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. While at UMES, Drummond held the title of Athletic Academic Specialist. She worked with Men's Basketball, Men's Track & Field, and Women's Track & Field. She advised student-athletes concerning appropriate course selection/registration and maintained study-hall operations.
Drummond additionally served as an Assistant Track & Field Coach for Washington High School in Princess Anne, Maryland. During her tenure with the program, she assisted in the successful acquisition of three 1st place conference championship titles and one 2nd place conference championship title.
Kristen Drummond resides in Philadelphia, PA with her husband Damion Drummond and their son, Dane Drummond, who is one-year old.
