Cheyney University's Kia Whitley-Duncan scores a career high

Kia Whitley-Duncan scored a career-high 27 points including 16 in the first half to pace Cheyney (3-14:3-5) to an 82-70 victory over Lock Haven (4-14:2-6). Whitley-Duncan played the entire game and was a perfect 12-12 from the foul line and dished out 7 assists. Amber Genwright also chipped in a career-high 22 points.

The Eagles were led by Marrysa Moyer's 21 points and five rebounds.

With the game tied at 12, the Lady Wolves went on a 6-0 run to take their biggest lead of the contest midway through the first half. The Eagles were able to battle back to cut the deficit to one, 35-34 at intermission.

A 9-2 run to start the second half gave the Eagles a 43-37 advantage for their biggest lead of the afternoon. The Wolves were able to battle back and, after an Alexis Peterson foul line jumper with 10:47 to play, tied the game at 47. LHU's Emily Daugherty drained a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 56-55 advantage but the lead was short-lived as Cheyney went on an 8-0 run to take a 63-56 lead. A pair of Daugherty free throws with 4:14 remaining cut the deficit to three but the Eagles would not get any closer. Cheyney would answer with an 11-2 spurt to take a 12 point lead, 74-62 with 1:45 to play to secure the victory.

"We were far from perfect today," commented Coach Adams. "But I am happy we found a way to pull out a victory. We weren't able to stretch the lead in the first half the way we wanted. In the second half we faced some adversity…..we were down six, we had Kyra (Hines-Allen), Destiny (McFarlane) and Alexis (Peterson) in foul trouble and were forced to play people out of position. We showed a little maturity and effort today. Amber (Grenwright) and Kia (Whitley-Duncan) really stepped it up today. Lachelle (Miller) made a clutch three-pointer that put us up for good. I'm really proud of our kids and their ability to play through today's adversities."

Cheyney will host cross-town rival West Chester on Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm.
