Lady Wolves Show True Grit

Playing some of their best basketball of the season, the Lady Wolves fell 53-48 to Shippensburg. Cheyney playing without its two leading scorers, were led by senior Linda Henderson. Henderson, scored a career high 14 points, along with Kyra MGriff and Nadirah Brown were playing the final game of their collegiate career in Cope Hall.
After falling behind 8-3 in the early going the Lady Wolves ran off 10 unanswered points to take a five point lead. Cheyney would settle on a 23-19 lead at half-time. The Red Raiders scored unanswered points to start the second half turning the four point deficit into a four point advantage. After a traditional three point play by Alexis Peterson the Cheyney lead was back up to four 33-29 with 14:30 remaining. With the game tied at 35, Shippensburg went on a 10-0 run from which the Lady Wolves could not overcome. Cheyney was able to cut the lead to three on a Henderson three pointer from the top of the key but ran out of time. The Red Raiders converted 8-8 free throws in the final 2:25 to preserve the victory. Shippensburg was 22-26 from the charity stripe on the afternoon compared to 11-22 for the Lady Wolves.
Cheyney will close out the regular season with trips to West Chester on Wednesday and East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
