Lady Wolves Women's Track Concludes Indoor Schedule

March 4, 2014

The Cheyney University women's track team concluded their indoor schedule on February 27 at the Moonlight at the MAC event hosted by Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. Although no team scoring was kept, several Lady Wolves had stand out performances.

Khabira Crawford ran the 60 m for the first time this season and posted an 8.03 to finish second to a runner from Division I St. Francis. She also placed fourth in the 60 m hurdles.  Shanavia Thomas finished third in the long jump and fourth in the 200 m. Her mark in the long jump was 5.26 m. She posted a 26.95 in the sprint.

Three other student-athletes posted personal bests. Dominic Barr posted a 1.50 m in the high jump. Daivona Williams had a top 10 finish in the 200 m with a time of 27.82. Taniqua Purdie's mark of 10.15 m in the triple jump was good enough for sixth place.

Jasmine Pitt, despite a sore hamstring, took a shot at snapping her own school record in the 500 m only to come up short. She finished third in a time of 1:25.71.

"I'm really enjoying coaching both the men and the women this year," commented head coach James Williams. "It's fun to watch them develop. This is a very young group and the future is promising."

The track teams will be back in action in late March when the outdoor season starts. Cheyney's first outdoor meet will be at the University of Miami on March 22.
