The Cheyney University men’s basketball team recently participated in the Saturday Reading Group at the 52 Street YMCA in West Philadelphia.

“The Sports Coordinator at the Y is Lillian Penn, a former basketball player for the Lady Wolves,” commented CU head men’s basketball coach Dominique Stephens.  “Without Lillian’s support and the efforts of Tyra Dawson, Camp and School Age Care Director, this project would not have happened.”

The CU student-athletes helped the kids with their homework and read books to pre-school children. The basketball players then put on a mini-clinic for the 100 plus kids that attended.

“It was fun interacting with the kids and giving back to the community” stated Eugene Lett Jr., a freshman from Philadelphia.  “Hopefully we will be able to do it again and maybe invite them out to Cheyney for a game.”
