Millrose Games Moves Uptown and Cheyney is Invited

February 9, 2012

For the first time in the history of the Millrose Games, one of the nation’s oldest indoor track meets, the competition will move from Madison Square Garden to the Armory.

Cheyney has been asked to participate in the HBCU 4 X 400 meter relay. Scheduled to appear for the Wolves are Jonathon Soussa, Donte McCorey, John Melvin and Justin Watkins. Cheyney will be competing against, Morgan State, Coppin State, Hampton, Delaware State and UMES. The race is scheduled for 7:15 Saturday night, the first event after the opening ceremonies and can be viewed live on the Armory You Tube site (http://www.youtube.com/user/armorytrack).

The 2012 Millrose Games are expecting to see challenges to long-standing records as the Armory track is renown for fast times. The majority of events are by invitation only. The Millrose Games itself began in 1908 when employees at Wanamaker’s department store formed the Millrose Track Club and formed a meet. It grew so fast, the Games moved to Madison Square Garden in 1914.
