Iconic Models Entertainment Takes First Place at Shippensburg
April 26, 2013
Iconic Models Entertainment members took first place in the state modeling competition last week. The Cheyney group topped Bloomsburg - breaking their three-year run.
Congratulations to The Cheyney University Iconic Models Entertainment group. Last Friday they took first place at the state-wide modeling competition held in Shippensburg University’s Memorial Theater and they were still glowing with excitement a week later. The victory was extra sweet since Bloomsburg University had taken first place in the statewide competition in the previous three years.
The 23-member company’s act, Fashion In Reality, used hip hop music for their program. Choreography was handled by Corey Gammon and James Brunson. Ciera Brown is the model coordinator. In preparation, the group practiced for about three weeks, using spaces all over campus, but mainly at Marcus Foster Student Center. All members live on campus which helps make coordinating plans easier.
Members style themselves and are influenced by Love and Hip Hop in Atlanta, a TV reality show. According to club president, Reggie Buckner, “Our style uses a lot of black and gold accessories. It’s sort of Atlanta, sort of southern style.”
Reggie, currently the Club’s longest member, became involved in his freshman year at Cheyney University. “The club actually was started in 2007. We hold auditions every fall and spring. The majority of this spring’s team came in the Fall of 2012.It’s just an extracurricular activity for everyone involved. We have a good time."
Reggie continues, “There aren’t any leads – everyone plays different characters. The show is like a little skit or play with choreography. The club competed last year also - Lincoln University’s club took second place and Bloomburg came in first. This year we won first place - $500 cash."
