Interim Secretary of Education William E. Harner Visits Cheyney University

PASSHE's Interim Secretary of Education, William E. Harner, was joined by Cheyney University Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President Sheilah Vance, Vice President for Finance Administration Al Skudzinkas, Athletic Director Ruffin Bell, and Volleyball Coach Joan Braid for a tour of the athletics department.

PASSHE's Interim Secretary of Education, William E. Harner, was joined by Cheyney University Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President Sheilah Vance, Vice President for Finance Administration Al Skudzinkas, Athletic Director Ruffin Bell, and Volleyball Coach Joan Braid for a tour of the athletics department.

After attending a meeting at nearby Chester-Upland School Disctict on August 1, PASSHE’s Interim Secretary of Education, William E. Harner, visited campus to learn more about Cheyney University of Pennsylvania's past, present, and future. 

Following lunch with Cheyney University's Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President, Sheilah Vance, Esq., and Vice President for Finance Administration Al Skudzinkas, Secretary Harner toured Cope Hall and Cope Hall Annex and discussed the needs of the University's athletics programs.  Athletic Director Ruffin Bell, Women’s Head Volleyball Coach Joan Braid, Vance, Skudzinkas, Assistant Football Coach Chris Rhoulac and Head Football Coach Ken Lockhard accompanied him on the tour. 

Secretary Harner promised to return to complete the campus tour.  He said he was interested in helping Cheyney grow its enrollment and high demand academic programs and offered several helpful suggestions.  He expressed a special interest in Cheyney University's agricultural science and military science (ROTC) offerings.

Vance said, "It was an honor to have a visit by Acting Secretary Harner so soon in his tenure. We look forward to a long and productive relationship."
