Dr. Ivan Turnipseed
Professor Ivan Turnipseed has been selected to participate in the 2013 Hyatt Faculty Summer Internship. He was chosen from a pool of 18 applicants for one of two faculty internships available in the competitive summer program. The one–week on-site program is an initiative of I-CHRE, the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education.
Dr. Ivan Turnipseed joined the Cheyney University faculty in 2012 as an Associate Professor & HRTM Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management Program Coordinator. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Hospitality Administration with emphases on social stratification in organizations, tourism marketing, and strategic human resource management. Dr. Turnipseed has more than a decade of professional experience in the lodging, conventions, and meeting planning industries. In addition, he has years of academic experience as a faculty member and an administrator at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey; Central Connecticut State University; Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania; the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Monroe College of The Bronx and New Rochelle, NY.
Turnipseed has maintained a presence at educational and professional conferences, presenting on issues of compensation discrimination, gender, politics, race, research methods, service quality, and sustainability. He has been an invited guest lecturer for a variety of professional and academic conferences and workshops and is published in several scholarly journals regarding the issues of diversity/inclusion, general business, and targeted consultancy.
Each summer Hyatt participates in the Faculty Internship program through I-CHRIE. The program was developed to promote awareness and enhance the educators' understanding of the industry by exposing them to the products and challenges of today’s hotel operations. In turn, Hyatt intends that this offering will benefit the educators and future leaders of the hospitality industry. The Hyatt Faculty Internship is an engaging one-week learning experience comprising of on-site field experience and a final evaluation about the participant's experience
