Set Your Calendar for the August 26 Wade Wilson Golf Classic
June 30, 2013
The popular Wade Wilson Golf Classic is planned for Monday, August 26 at the Penn Oaks Country Club near West Chester, PA. Golf, lunch, and a silent auction are highlights of the day. A golf clinic at Penn Oaks Country Club, a tour of QVC and a Wine/Cupcake Tasting at Penns Woods Winery are available for non-golfers.
This is the "C" Club's largest fundraiser each year. The fun-filled event raises money for student athlete scholarships--- this year's goal is $100,000. The “C” Club is committed to Cheyney University’s 12 varsity sports and the cheerleading squad and serves as the booster club to enhance school spirit, increase attendance at sporting events, raise money for the department and build overall enthusiasm for the University.
"This is our most important fundraiser of the year," exclaims "C" Club Vice President and Chairman of the Wade Wilson Golf Classic Larry Skinner, class of 1976. "CU's athletic budget has been cut substantially this year. We plan to give 100% of the money we raise--after expenses-- toward athletic scholarships to help with recruitment and to keep kids in school this fall semester. We have a huge commitment to Cheyney athletes. We need the community and alumni to step up to the plate. This is much more than a golf outing. What we're doing is more critical this year than ever."
Exclusive Allstate Insurance Agent Joseph Devane has gotten his company to sponsor the event every year. "It's great exposure," he says. "We are very heavy in getting our brand out. It's a great opportunity to touch bases with other business owners and put our message out. It's an easy sell because our customers play golf." Devane surmises that Allstate has gotten as many as 75 customers, including Cheyney University's President, in the last few years just from the Wade Wilson event. "It's been a great win-win for us," he admits.
Senator Vincent J. Hughes, a Democratic member of the PA State Senate, representing the 7th District, is Honorary Chairperson of the Wade Wilson Golf Classic. Sponsorship and advertising packages are available. Individual golfers and foursomes are welcome to play on the greens. Tee time (shotgun start) is 8 am with awards presented at 2 pm. The events for non-golfers start at 9 am.
Through contributions to the annual athletic fund, donors are enrolled as members of the “C” Club, a status that entitles them to receive membership benefits corresponding to their donation level. “C” Club members are alumni, former student athletes, parents, fans and community supporters who believe that a strong intercollegiate athletic program can enhance character and University spirit, as well as increase Cheyney’s national visibility. Members have contributed steadily in support of the University since the “C” Club was founded. This giving reflects a tremendous dedication to the success of the student athletes who wear the Blue and White.
