Short Handed Lady Wolves Put Up Tough Fight
January 25, 2012
Cheyney received 20 points from Arerie DeJesus and 10 points apiece from Denise Hill and Brooke Garrett but ended on the short side of an 84-62 decision to West Chester.
Cheyney was playing shorthanded tonight as they took to the hardwood against their cross town rival without the services of leading scorer and rebounder Nadirah Brown.
Cheyney hung close in the early going. The Lady Wolves found themselves down two at the 11:31 mark of the first half before the Golden Rams ran off eight straight points. Cheyney was able to cut the lead to five after an Alexis Peterson lay-up with 5:01 to play in the half. However, West Chester went on a 15-4 run to take a 16 point lead before settling on a 40-26 lead at intermission.
In the second half the Lady Wolves were able to cut the deficit to eight but got no closer. West Chester had nine players on their roster that played at least 17 minutes and compared to Cheyney who only played eight.
Cheyney will travel to Shippensburg on Saturday.
