The Frederick Douglass Institute Presents the Second Annual Black Classic Film & Documentary Series

Film, like books, gives us the opportunity to walk in the shoes of our forebearers, and learn from their challenges and triumphs. This film series is about the Black Experience, which may, in fact, be too phenomenal for mere words by themselves to express. Film, however, is an ideal vehicle. Do join us at the Second Annual Series!

These film gems beautifully illustrate how the fruit of the Black Diaspora became a mainstay of film representation, despite efforts to marginalize Black actors, Black life, and Black history. Each is a piece of history, able to “take us there" and help us begin to understand the obstacles Africans and African Americans endure. They  also illustrated the richness of life Blacks create and enjoy in spite of ongoing racial animosity.
