June 16, 2011

Starting this month, all Cheyney University faculty, staff, and students can take online Microsoft Digital Literacy Courses twenty-four hours per day and seven day per week for FREE. The online courses are available on the MyCU (Intranet) portal located on the cheyney.edu homepage. Simply click on MyCu and select the IT tab at the top of the page. Here you can find online computer training and other resources that will help you in your daily work. Please check back often for future updates.

The Microsoft Digital Literacy Basic Curriculum provides absolute beginners with the Microsoft Digital Literacy: First Course which is required to begin to using a computer. This course is ideal for learners who are a bit shy about working with a computer and are using a computer for the very first time.

The Digital Literacy Standard Curriculum Version 2 consists of five courses:

  1. Computer Basics
  2. The Internet and the World Wide Web
  3. Productivity Programs
  4. Computer Security and Privacy
  5. Digital Lifestyles

Each course has an e-learning module and an assessment. You can also take the certificate test, which covers topics from all five courses. If you pass the certificate test, you can print out a personalized Digital Literacy Certificate. All students and new and current Cheyney University employees that work daily on the computer, are highly encouraged to take all five of the standard curriculum version 2 courses and pass the certificate test.

The Digital Literacy Advanced Curriculum consists of the following courses:

All courses are video based, so you must have speakers or headsets to participate on the computer. The IT office does not supply headsets. Should you have any difficulties accessing the courses, please do not hesitate to contact the IT office at (610) 399-2043 or email helpdesk@cheyney.edu.
