Wolves Come Up Short
January 28, 2012
Jason Sabb netted 31 points and Brandon Baylor added 21 points but it wasn’t enough as Cheyney fell 82-75 to host Shippensburg. DeShawn Curtis came off the bench to score 15 points and lead the team in rebounding with nine.
The Wolves played a stellar first half, shooting the ball 52% and taking a 43-35 lead into the locker room. With the game tied at 23, the Wolves went on a 15-3 run to take a 12 point advantage before settling on the eight point half-time advantage. During the Cheyney run the Wolves scored all 15 points from behind the arc; nine points by Baylor and six by Sabb.
Midway through the second half the Red Raiders went on a 26-6 run turning a 10 point deficit into a ten point advantage with 4:49 to play. A pair of Jerrod Johnson free throws cut the lead to five with just over a minute to play but Shippensburg converted six of eight foul shots in the closing minute to preserve the win.
Cheyney will play their final non-league contest of the season Monday night at the University of the Sciences before hosting East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night.
