Wolves Drop East Opener
September 24, 2011
For the second straight week the Wolves posted a good first quarter. “We were able to move the ball early and our defense held strong, commented Coach Lockard.
Marcus Jones led the Wolves ground attack. The sophomore rushed for 64 yards on 13 carries including a long of 20 yards. Signal caller Chris Anderson was 11-21 for 65 yards. His favorite receiver was Dominic Crowell who caught four passes for 52 yards.
Defensively Shannon Birch and Isaiah Fleming were credited with nine tackles apiece. Tim Hume recorded two sacks and four tackles for loss.
Things started to unravel for Cheyney in the second quarter. Cheyney fumbled the ball at midfield but the defense held forcing the Golden Bears to punt. However, on their second possession of the quarter, quarterback Chris Anderson was intercepted deep Wolves territory and three plays later # 12 Kutztown scored the first points of the afternoon en route to a 49-0 victory. The Golden Bears found the endzone on their next possession and took a 14-0 lead into the locker room.
On their first three possession of the second half Kutztown again found the endzone to extend the lead to 35-0. For good measure the Golden Bears tacked on two touchdowns in the final period.
Cheyney will return home next Saturday for a 1:00 pm kickoff against Millersville.
