Wolves Take Battle of the Firsts

For the second time in as many years, Cheyney defeated Lincoln to start the football season. This year the Wolves prevailed 34-21 spoiling the opening of the new on-campus stadium at Lincoln.

Cheyney University Class of 2016 Moves Into New Residence Hall

The class of 2016 began arriving on campus on August 22nd. For them the day was filled with “firsts” -- their first time away from home for many, their first day of college, and the first occupants of a newly constructed college residence hall – the first one on Cheyney University’s campus in 30 years.

Joe Sestak to Lead Seminar in Ethical Leadership at Cheyney University This Semester

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania students attending the seminar “Special Topics: Ethical Leadership” this fall will have a unique educational experience on campus. Co-taught by former Congressman Joe Sestak and Cheyney University professor, Dr. Bradley Jay Buchner, the 400-level course combines sociology and political science to explore topics of leadership in the current sociopolitical environment. Held on Wednesdays from 6-8:30 pm, the course is of great relevance in this election year. Spaces are still available for interested persons who would like to register, including visiting students from other institutions and non degree-seeking students can enroll through the continuing education program. To enroll, contact Admissions at 610 399-2275. The first class begins on August 29.

Freshmen Start First Semester With Day of Service

More than 100 Cheyney University of Pennsylvania freshmen rolled up their sleeves and volunteered on Saturday, August 25, in an effort to make a difference. They got up early, boarded four buses and headed in two different directions. Two busloads of students went to Coatesville’s Community, Youth and Women’s Alliance (CYWA) to do some much-needed sprucing up, while two more busloads of students traveled to Philadelphia’s historic Mount Moriah Cemetery to give the grounds a facelift.

The Cheyney University Alumni Campus Chapter Hosts Welcome Event for the Class of 2016

The Cheyney University Alumni Campus Chapter hosted a welcome event for the new Class of 2016 during Annual Discovery Week on Thursday evening, August 23. Their goal was to instill pride in the new students, show them who the alumni are and to embrace the future alumni into the family. The welcoming event demonstrated to the new students that "We Love Cheyney; that We Are Cheyney; and that They Are Cheyney."

Construction of New Science Center Begins

As a response to regional needs in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math), a Center of Excellence for Research and Applied Sciences (Science Center) is now under construction at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The 39,970 square foot facility will support two initiatives: research and teaching.

Fall 2012 Entrepreneurial Leadership Center Lecture Series

The ELC Fall 2012 Lecture Series opens on September 11. The series offers information from the experts on how to develop a successful business and this year's focus is on micro businesses. Also known as micro business, a micro enterprise is a type of small business often registered as having five or fewer employees, and requiring seed capital of not more than $35,000. They are commonly referred to as a "Mom & Pop Business." All programs begin at 6 pm, are free and open to the public. They will be held in the Marcus Foster Student Center Auditorium.

2012-2013 Arts and Lecture Series Opens with Black Violin on September 18

The 212-2013 Schedule for the Arts and Lecture Series at Cheyney University features ten programs with a variety of speakers, musicians, singers and dancers from many continents and disciplines. All programs are held on the Cheyney University Campus and are open to the public.

Wade Wilson Golf Tournament A Success for C Club

The Wade Wilson Golf Tournament and Auction raised over $50,000 in support of the Cheyney University Athletic Department. The golf tournament and auction were held at the Penn Oaks Country Club on August 27.

New Scoreboard Graces O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium

Fans coming to O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium on Saturday, September 8 for the Wolves home opener against Indiana (PA) will set their eyes on a new wireless scoreboard. The board was furnished by Varsity Scoreboards and is 50% larger than the old scoreboard. The old Nevco scoreboard graced the field for at least 45 years.

Cheyney Aquaculture Program Partners with William Penn School District

Students returning to Penn Wood Middle School in Darby this fall are in for a big treat, thanks, in part, to Cheyney University Biology Professor Dr. Steven Hughes. He’s collaborated with Beverly Julal and Elmore Hunter of the William Penn School District to bring several tanks of fish from Cheyney University’s Aquaculture Research and Education Laboratory (AREL) into the middle school classroom.

CU Junior Ryan Robert Experiences New Kind of Learning Environment

Ryan Robert wanted to get out of his shell. A rising junior at Cheyney University and Queens native, this city boy wanted to get outside and experience a new kind of learning environment. That’s when Ryan discovered the Student Conservation Association (SCA). Robert is a member of the Keystone Honors Academy majoring in biology.

Student Kristan Justice Joins CU Council of Trustees

July 24, 2012, Kristan Justice, a senior from West Cheter, PA, has been appointed to the Council of Trustees of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania of the State System of higher Education by Governor Tom Corbett. Kristan fills the position vacated by Latasha Lammont, who graduated in Spring 2012.
