Speech Contest Celebrates 175 Years of Cheyney University

Ten young orators impressed the panel of Cheyney University staff and faculty judges in an excellent program on October 18.
Prof. Linda Taylor presided over the program in Marcus Foster Auditorium. The panel of judges included Dr. Marlen Livezey, Dr. Beth Mullaney, Dr. Pamela Poe and Mr. Geri Vital. The contest included three classes of competition - Oratory, Oral Interpretation, and Extemporaneous.
The winners include Latoya Semple, first, Charvis Singleton, second, and Courtney Clarke, third place in Oratory; Nyshia Saunders, first, Maurice Allen, second, and Cashawn Thompson, third in Oral Interpretation, and Richona McKnight, first, Jonathan Whalen, second, and Moraita Bryan, third place in Extemporaneous. Prizes totaling $1700 were provided by Mr. David Alston of The Cheyney Foundation.
