North Carolina Chapter Alumni Pledge Their Continued Support
January 9, 2012
Cheyney University President, Michelle Howard-Vital, and husband, Geri Vital, hosted the North Carolina Alumni Chapter in their home over the holidays for their annual alumni gathering. Since 2007, the North Carolina alumni and the President’s family have gathered together each year during the holidays in support of the University.
Chapter President, Ozzie Hackett, has been instrumental in organizing this annual affair and further states, “We believe that support for the Marching Band and any other entities that market the University in a positive way is crucial. In addition, these young musicians develop character, discipline, mental toughness and a strong work ethic through this entity. This opportunity is common in many southern HBCU's and we believe that this opportunity should continue to flourish and be available at Cheyney. We feel that this can only happen if this is a belief that is shared and commonly supported by both alumni entities and the University.”
This year, the North Carolina Chapter has pledged to continue raise funds to help support the expansion of the University’s band. This pledge comes at the perfect time for the CU family as President Vital has challenged the University Community to raise $200,000 for merit scholarships in honor of the University’s 175th Anniversary.
