Lamaj Fashion Show To Hit Cheyney University Runway on March 6

February 21, 2012

Jamal Morrison, a CU Hotel and Restaurant Management student, is cooking up some hot fashions on the side. A Baltimore native, he is a self-taught designer and has created a new fashion collection representing his first ready to wear line for men and women. Customized to size pieces will be available for purchase.   His inspiration comes from Project Runway and the popular Urban Modeling movement. Recently Jamal did a full run-through for a private audience and a fashion photo shoot.

Morrison has presented fashion shows in Baltimore, his home town. “Baltimore and DC are hotbeds of the urban modeling trend. Shows are the perfect outlet for my 2 passions-style and events. I love fashion and taught myself how to make clothes. And I know how to transform a space and put on a good program. This fits perfectly into my plan to focus on event planning – with a style."
His fashion line, Lamaj, is about to be launched at a hip fashion show on March 6 at 7 pm at the Marcus Foster Auditorium. Seven male and female models who are Cheyney students will present 38 pieces from the spring line in the runway show. Guests will find the Marcus Foster Auditorium décor transformed with dramatic draping, lighting and a chair-lined runway. As the models take the runway in stride, DJ T Mills spins an energized music mix and Kara Craig will perform a Whitney Houston tribute.
“I wanted to bring this show to Cheyney. I know the culture here and have had great support. Deanna Derry is the show hostess, Stan Banks is photographing, and Michael Carol is assisting with logistics. It’s the not-to-missed event of the year. Project Runway will be hearing from me soon.”
