Read-In for African American History Month Celebrates Favorite Authors
February 29, 2012
The Writing Center in Cheyney University's Baily Hall was a cozy refuge on a chilly night for the February 28 Read-In for African American History Month. Using old and new technology, students read selections written by their favorite African American authors including Langston Hughes, Toni Morrison, Lucille Clifton and Maya Angelou amid a dramatic collection of enormous tropical plants.
The evening wrapped up with a tempting buffet of cookies, cupcakes and other sweets. Faculty members including Professor Marietta Dantonio-Fryer Chairperson Department of Humanities and Communication Arts, Professors Stuart Richman, Linda Taylor, Dr. Norma George and students Annie Gallagher, Channeen Stevenson, Rugniyah Lash, Raven Smith-Farris, Joshua Hughes, Travonya Kenly, Ava Higginbotton, M Diczmos, and R Hansen enjoyed a warm evening of literature.
This February is the 23rd National African American Read-In sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English.
