COMMITTED Draws Crowd to Marian Anderson Music Center

March 9, 2012

Committed, the a capella group from Atlanta, Georgia, drew a large crowd to Cheyney University’s Marian Anderson Music Center for the Arts and Lecture Series on March 1.  Each member of the group - Tommy, Orlando, TJ, Robbie, Terry, Maurice and Jesse - played their part in creating unique harmonies with powerful lead vocals, soaring harmonies, and a booming bass line.

Amazing music came from this tight band that started singing together in 2003 while attending high school at Forest Lake Academy. The group continued to perform together when they all attended Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. In 2011 their talent came to national attention when they were selected to complete in Season 2 of NBS’s “The Sing Off” and ultimately were selected for first place by popular vote. That accomplishment brought them a Sony Music recording contract and $200,000 prize.

Now on tour, they have an opportunity to keep that college energy going. On Thursday night, they responded to the audience’s enthusiasm with chatter between them and the audience. They  even invited a student up on stage for a chorus of Happy Birthday in honor of her special day. Fame hasn’t gone to their heads!
