Spring Open House a Success

Cheyney University staff and students welcomed over 300 prospective students and their families to the Spring Open House eventon Friday, March 30, in Cope Hall gymnasium. The campus guests met with admissions staff, faculty members, and other campus officials for information on course offerings, financial aid, housing and campus life.

“We had a great crowd at today’s event,” said Michael Taylor, executive director of enrollment management. “Our efforts to increase awareness of Cheyney University’s revitalized academic programs, new and improved campus facilities, and nurturing environment are generating buzz among area high school students.

Mistress of Ceremonies was Miss Cheyney University, Shakeema Simmons. She was joined by Dr. Suzanne Phillips, Ms. Etta Baldwin, Ms. Pamela West, David Alston, Cheyney Foundation, and Student Government Association President Ms. Deanna Derry in welcoming campus guests. 

The Soulful Sound Marching Band under the direction of Professor Allen Gardener and the Cheyney University Choir under the direction of Professor Marques L. A. Garrett brought guests in the bleachers to their feet. Campus tours took the prospects to an Academic Fair at Cope Hall, a Student Services Fair at Marcus Foster Student Center, Residence Hall tours, and Ada S. Georges Ballroom throughout the afternoon.
