Philadelphia City Year Visits Campus

April 12, 2012

Jorge Lopez and Latrice Jones, City Year Greater Philadelphia Corp members,  visited campus today at the invitation of Cheney University's Career Services. As a result of speaking to a class at Duckrey Hall and visiting students at Ada Georges Dining Hall, they had a productive day.  According to Lopez, "We made great contacts with students today, raising their awareness of our one-year paid year teaching assignments for new graduates. We hope to have some Cheyney graduates placed in Philadelphia schools next fall."

As tutors and mentors, City Year Greater Philadelphia corps members provide critically needed services to some of Philadelphia’s most underserved children and youth.

Since 1997, City Year Greater Philadelphia has:

•Put more than 1650 corps members into service
•Made a difference in the lives more than 100,000 children
•Served over 2,000,000 hours in the Philadelphia community
•Engaged 25,000 volunteers at events across the city
•Provided more than 370,000 hours of trainings for corps members

City Year’s mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership and social entrepreneurship. It is through service that we can demonstrate the power and idealism of young people, engage citizens to benefit the common good, and develop young leaders of the next generation.
