Cheyney University Homecoming To Open With The 175th Gala At Pennsylvania Convention Center

The Cheyney University Alumni Affairs Office today released details for the 2012 Cheyney University Homecoming weekend. The event marks the 175th anniversary of Cheyney University, which was first established as the Institute for Colored Youth in 1837.

Since Founders Day 2010, Cheyney University officials have been making plans for this milestone year. President Michelle R. Howard-Vital has inspired faculty, staff and students to remain ever mindful of the historic mission and 175-year legacy of providing access, opportunity and excellence. The alumni have stepped up in unprecedented ways to support the University’s Pathways to Excellence.

The weekend opens with the 175th Gala on Thursday October 18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, at 1101 Arch Street.  Gala reservations can be made at

Friday October 19 activities include
- An invitation-only Life Members Luncheon at noon
- A Leadership Forum is planned for 3 pm in the Marcus Foster Student Union
- The Athletic Hall of Fame will be held in Ada S. Georges Center at 6 pm
- Casino Night - Meet & Greet Party from 8 pm - 1 am at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Claymont, Delaware

Saturday October 20 includes
- General Alumni Meeting and Continental Breakfast at 9 am in the Marcus Foster Student Center
- Homecoming Parade at 11:30 am
- Cheyney vs Bloomsburg Football Game at 12 noon at the O'Sheilds Stadium
- Tailgate Party at 4 pm on Campus
- Old School Line Dance Party from 6 pm to midnight in Marcus Foster Student Union
- Young Alumni / Back to Body Show from 9:30 pm to 3 am in Ada S. Georges Center
- SCGA Homecoming Concert and After Party at 8 pm in Cope Hall

Sunday October 21
- President's Legacy Brunch at 10 am in Ada S. Georges Center
