Class of 2016 Looks Good

September 13, 2012

The Class of 2016 was welcomed with the open arms of President Michelle Howard-Vital, Vice President for Student Affairs and Student Life, Dr. Suzanne D. Phillips, CU Alumnus Junious Stanton, President of Student Council Ahn Yeah Graham, the Cheyney University Choir and Band, and many others at the Sixth Annual Student Convocation on September 13.

Greeting the audience with words of praise "You look good!" President Vital reminded the new students that "Education is about transformation and change.  We are preparing you academically and emotionally to be extremely competitive for the 21st century." She urged the crowd to "make sure that the people next to you are still here with you four years from now.  This will be a team approach to get the best you can from the next four years.  It's the reason you are here."  President Vital's remarks were backed up with words from the University Chief of Staff, Sheilah Vance, "Know that there are hundreds of hands to help you along your way."

Keynote speaker, Cheyney University Alumna, Dr. Barbara Collins, Positive Trends Founder and President, shared fond reminiscences and good advice with the audience.   Cheyney University was her first and only choice for college because of it's reputation as the best teacher's college in the country, and prepared her well for a life full of accomplishments.
