"The First HBCU" - Cheyney University - Celebrates 175 Years at a Gala Affair

On Thursday October 18, 2012, Cheyney Pride will glow at a gala celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Organizers anticipate that more than 1000 guests will fill the Pennsylvania Convention Center Ballroom for an evening that launches the 2012 University Homecoming weekend and celebrates 175 years of outstanding education.The event also marks the culmination of a $1 million donation campaign initiated nearly three years ago by the Cheyney University Alumni Association.
Hosting the evening filled with awards, dinner, entertainment, and dancing is Philadelphia's own Kenny Gamble. The committee organizer and Cheyney University alumna, Barbara Daniel-Cox, has lined up an evening filled with entertainment by Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, Billy Paul, Amazin' Grace, Bill Jolly & TSOP Band and many more. The black tie event will attract many area notables including Cheyney University graduates, supporters and friends from far and wide. Proceeds benefit scholarships for Cheyney University students.
