Cheyney University Students Mourn The Passing of Tiffany Sheppard
October 25, 2012
Cheyney University held a beautiful memorial ceremony on Tuesday October 23, 2012 for Tiffany Sheppard. Tiffany was a Cheyney senior who unexpectedly passed away last weekend.
Student Activities staff members uplifted her memory by bringing the campus community together in her honor at the Marcus Foster Student Center this week. Purple ribbons representing Tiffany's favorite color were distributed at the entrance of the memorial so students could wear them proudly.
Students and staff filled the auditorium from front to back to pay their respects to a dear CU family member. Emotions ran high when different organizations and close friends of Tiffany spoke about her. Many of Tiffany’s friends that she met during her years at Cheyney, including some who no longer attend the University, paid their respects by reuniting on campus where her college years began in the summer of 2008.
Most organizations expressed their feelings and condolences through letters, poems, sentimental songs and donations in front of the memorial. Assistant Director of Residence Life Curtis Word gave an encouraging and consoling speech, which lightened the mood for students to look on the bright side of this sad situation. In Tiffany’s beautiful memorial pictures which were prominently displayed in the front of the auditorium, her smile fortified the broken hearts that were left to heal on their own.
A candlelight vigil will be held for Tiffany on Thursday October 25, 2012 at 7 pm outside of Marcus Foster Student Center. A viewing will be held Saturday October 27, 2012 from 9 to 10 am at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 5301 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA,19139. The funeral will follow at 10 am. The Internment will be at Fernwood Cemetery.
Cheyney University’s Student Activities Office has scheduled a bus to transport students to the funeral service. Those who are interested in attending should go to Sharon Thorn’s office in Marcus Foster Student Center to reserve a seat.
