Wasserleben Honored by the National Football Foundation

Cheyney University starting quarterback Blaze Wasserleben was named a recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Philadelphia Chapter.  Wasserleben was one of eight Philadelphia area college football players to receive the honor at a banquet held at the Connelly Center on the campus of Villanova University earlier this month.
 
In addition to the eight collegiate athletes the Philadelphia Chapter also recognized 32 high school players from the Philadelphia area.  Joe Eichhorn, the voice of the Villanova Football acted as Master of Ceremonies. 
 
Also receiving awards were, Terry Toohey, Award Winning Journalist for the Delaware County Times, Ursinus College Assistant Coach Mike Ortman for contribution to Amateur Football, Larry Hayes as the College Football Official of the Year, William McKeever, High School Football Official of the Year and Bill Burrell as the Youth League Award Winner with the Prospect Park Termites.
 
“This is a great honor for Blaze and for Cheyney,” stated Cheyney Football Coach Ken Lockard.
