Dr. Frank G. Pogue, a proven leader with over 50 years of experience in higher education, is Cheyney University of Pennsylvania’s new Interim President. He took over November 3, allowing Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins, who served as Acting President following the retirement in July of Dr. Michelle R. Howard-Vital, to concentrate on her Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs duties.

David Garibaldi, motivational speaker and international performance artist who was a finalist on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, participated in a broadcast event October 21st, 2014 sponsored by Cheyney University's chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success. The event, entitled Rhythm & Hue,
was the second installment of the 2014-2015 multi-speaker broadcast series sponsored by The Society.

Dr. Frank G. Pogue, who retired in June as president of Grambling State University in Louisiana, was selected by the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education to serve as interim president of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He will assume his new duties on Nov. 3. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Phyllis Dawkins will continue in her dual role as the university’s acting president until then.

Cheyney University geography students were part of a contingent that traveled to the Endless Mountains Region of Pennsylvania on October 8 to participate in the second Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust Symposium. They are doing real world research that will be used on the Dennis Farm webpage and will be suitable for interactive, smart phone, and even walking tours that may be created for the property’s visitors.

The Philadelphia Chapter of 100 Black Men recently sponsored Cheyney University (CU) faculty and students to attend the 44th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) of the Congressional Black Caucus held in Washington, DC. All students who attended are members of the Cheyney University Collegiate 100 Black Men chapter. The four-day conference featured more than 70 policy sessions, a national town hall, a job and contract procurement fair, and the Phoenix Awards Dinner featuring President Obama.

Cheyney University has added a new campus organization to its roster, the National Society of Leadership and Success. It began during the 2013-2014 year under the guidance of Advisor Marie Kennerly. Its mission is, "We Build Leaders Who Make a Better World."

Nearly 30 Cheyney University of Pennsylvania students are the latest PECO Scholars, honored at a ceremony and reception on September 15 in the University's new planetarium. In addition, PECO presented Cheyney University with a $30,000 check to be used for new scholarships in 2015.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a global healthcare company, recently selected Cheyney University senior Edwin Braswell as a recipient of a GSK Opportunity Scholarship. The college scholarship is awarded each year to Philadelphia students who have overcome great adversities and are changing their lives through higher education.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania will officially dedicate its state-of-the-art Science Center, the first new academic building constructed on its historic campus in 30 years, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 4 pm. University administrators and trustees will help cut the ribbon, along with PA State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Chancellor Frank T. Brogan, elected officials including State Representative Thaddeus Kirkland, a 1991 Cheyney graduate, and other dignitaries.

They wore beanies on their heads 50 years ago when they walked the Historic Quadrangle at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. On May 10, when they led the procession for the graduating Class of 2014 back at their alma mater, the women proudly wore white, while the men dressed in black.

Cheyney University recently became an All-Steinway School, joining more than 160 other schools in the world with that same illustrious distinction. Industry experts also say that just the All-Steinway School title alone, a universal symbol of excellence, is expected to enhance Cheyney University’s music program for the next 30 to 40 years.
