2011-2012 Arts and Lecture Series: NBC's "The Sing Off" Winner "Committed" Performs on March 1

"Committed", winner of NBC'S "The Sing Off," will perform at Cheyney University's 2011-2012 Arts and Lecture Series at 7 PM on March 1, 2012. This all-male a cappella act infuses R&B, pop, gospel/soul, jazz, and doo-wop into their music.

The show features Cheyney University students and gives an entertaining yet insightful look at modern day black culture, shown through the eyes of two college roommates from separate walks of life.

D.I.V.A. "Distinction Is Very Appealing" Program is a comprehensive and interactive four-part program series for women students. Each session, which lasts 90 minutes, provides a foundation for the session that follows. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend every session.

Latasha Lamont Appointed New CU Student Trustee

Latasha Lamont was recently appointed by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to serve as the Cheyney University student representative to PASSHE (Pennsylvania System of Higher Education). Ms. Lamont came to Cheyney from Buffalo, NY and served on the student council at her high school. As a student from another state, she saw an opportunity to share her insights as an out of state student with the PASSHE board.

Starting this month, all Cheyney University faculty, staff, and students can take online Microsoft Digital Literacy Courses twenty-four hours per day and seven day per week for FREE. The online courses are available on the MyCU (Intranet) portal located on the cheyney.edu homepage.

Shawn Murray Gives Back to CMTHS Culinary Program

Shawn Murray works with his mother Gladys on the James Murray & Edwin Wilkinson Scholarship they created. The awards of $1,000 each will be given to three students to attend Cheyney University’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program. Shawn Murray, coordinator of the program, is a graduate of the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and the culinary arts program at the Central Montco Technical High School. This year’s recipients of the new scholarship will come from the 2011 class at CMTHS.

The Cheyney University Concert Choir & Cheyney University Soulful Marching Band participated in Jackie Robinson Night at the Philadelphia Phillies' Pre-Game Ceremonies on Friday, April 15, at Citizens Bank Ball Park. The choir, directed by Marques Garrett, sang the National Anthem, and the Band performed under the direction of Professor Allen Gardner.

Writing assistants offer one-on-one consultations at all stages of the writing process from focusing topics through drafting, revising, and editing. The Writing Center at Cheyney University provides a friendly, quiet environment for reading, writing, and collaboration.
