Accelerated Summer Courses Offered to Non-Cheyney Students Online & on Campus

College students can make the most of their summer time, boost their GPA and build up some credits for required courses through Cheyney University’s “CU in the Summer” offerings. In addition, non-Cheyney students can also take the five-week-long classes whether they are pursuing a degree at another university or just looking to take a course that interests them.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania was packed May 9 as family and friends gathered to watch the Class of 2015 walk across the stage to receive their long-awaited diplomas. The sweeping white tent on the historic quadrangle of the Nation’s 1st HBCU overflowed with well-wishers. As the University Band played Pomp and Circumstance, nearly 250 graduates processed behind Cheyney Administrators, Faculty, and Class of 1965 members who were on hand to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Senior Brandon Collins Recognized as a Scholar Athlete by National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame

Senior Brandon Collins was one of nine area collegiate football players to be recognized by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame as a Scholar Athlete. A computer science major, Collins posted a 4.0 Grade Point Average in his final season of eligibility. He will graduate on Saturday with a 3.34 GPA.

Pennsylvania Representative Thaddeus Kirkland will give the keynote address at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania's 178th Founder's Day on Wednesday, February 25 at 1 pm. The annual event will take place in the Marian Anderson Music Center Auditorium on the historic campus. Kirkland, a 1991 graduate of Cheyney, is a community activist who first burst into the public arena in the fight for improved education for students in the City of Chester.

Cheyney University held its Spring Convocation on January 29 under the theme “Building on the Excellence of Cheyney University.” Ushers gave each person attending a Cheyney Pride Pin with the school’s shield and a Cheyney Piggy Bank. Interim President Frank G. Pogue encouraged students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests to wear the pins daily and to fill their pig with loose change and turn it in to University Advancement Staff so that the money can be used to help Cheyney students.

Randy Lewis visited campus November 10 to share his story about an initiative he undertook as Walgreens senior vice president of supply chain and logistics in 2007 when Walgreens opened its 14th distribution center in Anderson, S.C. The Center was the first facility of its kind to employ a significant number of people with disabilities. Lewis' inspiration, he said, came from his autistic son.
