Freshman Shanavia Thomas placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.49 m. Thomas along with team mates Veronica Sweet, Alean Rhoades and Jasmine Carter posted a 49.14 in the 4 X 100 relay and will participate in the final tomorrow. Thomas and Cater will also both race in 100 m finals on Saturday. The duo finished fifth and sixth respectively in the preliminaries posting times of 12.16 and 12.28 respectively. Thomas will also represent Cheyney in the 200 m finals due to posting a 25.05 in the

Natasha Lyburn placed seventh in the shot put with an effort of 9.88 m. Ayasha Lyke finished fifth in the javelin with a mark of 26.50. Alean Rhodes took home a bronze medal in the triple jump with a mark of 9.84 m. She also finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.77.

The 4 X 100 relay team of Jasmine Carter, Shanavia Thomas, Veronica Sweet and Alean Rhodes posted a 50.24 around the oval at Franklin Field. Cheyney placed seventh in their heat outdueling La Salle for the seventh spot.

Freshman sensation Shanavia Thomas set two new school records as the Lady Wolves hosted the Lady Lions on the track at O’Shields Stevenson Stadium. Thomas posted a 24.4 in the 200 meters and 5.52 in the long jumps to etch her name once again in the Cheyney University Record Book.

Shanavia Thomas qualified for the PSAC Championships in three events while competing in the Gwynedd-Mercy Mid-Week Invitational. Thomas took home the gold medal in both the 100 and 200 meters running the sprints in 12.55 and 26.03 respectively. The freshman also took first place honors in the long jump with a mark of 5.28 m.

Junior Simone Carter set a new school record in the 60 m dash covering the distance in a rapid 7.60 to win Saturday Night at the Armory in New York. It was the fourth fastest time in D II this season. Later in the night Carter finished fourth in the 200 m in a time of 25.10 also a school record.

Kemuel “Cam” Wright set a new school record winning the 60 meters and setting a school record in a blistering 6.87. Earlier in the day he won his heat and placed third overall in the preliminaries in with a 7.00. Wright’s time is the seventh fastest in D II this season.

Simone Carter picked up where she left off last season. Carter won the 200 meters in 26.32 but was edged out in the 60 by a runner from Coppin State. Her time in the 60, 7.81, and 200 were good enough to qualify for the season ending PSAC Championships.
