Esteem Alum Andre Waters Passes Away

November 21, 2006

The Cheyney University family is saddened by the loss of our esteemed alum Andre Waters.  “Our prayers go out to his friends and family,” commented Athletic Director Patric Simon.  Waters was a member of the Wolves football squad in the early 80’s.  A 1984 graduate, Waters was known for his legendary hard hitting safety.  While at Cheyney he earned first team All-PSAC honors in 1981, ’82 and ’83.  He played professionally for the Eagles from 1984-93 and for the Arizona Cardinals from 1994-95.  He appeared in 156 games as a professional and recorded 15 interceptions.  In his first two years in the pros he also returned kicks for the Eagles; averaging 23 yards per kick-off and punt return.  This past year, Waters served as the Defensive Coordinator at Fort Valley State (GA).  The Wildcats finished the season 4-6.  Waters had previously coached at St. Augustine’s, Morgan State, South Florida and Alabama State.

Funeral details have yet to be released.
